Diablo Swing Orchestra is a highly original and innovative band from Stockholm, Sweden. Encompassing styles ranging from swing jazz to Mexican Mariachi-style and just about everything else in-between, they effortlessly meld their multifarious influences with a hard hitting metal sensibility. The band seemingly appeared from nowhere, releasing their debut album “The Butcher’s Ballroom” initially on their own label. Word spread slowly but surely, and soon the band managed to win “Surprise of the Year” at the Metal Storm annual awards (as well as coming second in the “Best Newcomer” and “Best Debut Album” categories). The initial trickle of fans on their Myspace page has now grown to an average of 1000 plays a day and worldwide plaudits from new converts. This is no doubt a bizarre range of styles, but there’s something here for even the most casual of listeners. Fans of Nightwish and Within Temptation will get as much from “The Butcher’s Ballroom” as fans of the likes of Primus, Arcturus and Devin Townsend.
