The concept of a ‘Threnody’ is that of a lament/ode – in the form of a poem or song - to those ones who have died and who are missed by their loved ones.
Winterfylleth’s third album, The Threnody of Triumph takes this idea and links it to how people historically viewed ideas of spirituality; in the sense of how the soul and the body were connected. To this end the album is about how the ancient British peoples viewed the process of transitioning the body/soul to the afterlife and then accepted of the passing of their loved ones; by paying homage to their lives through the dedication of a Threnody as a final tribute.
The release of the album marks a new phase in the progression of the band’s sound; contrasting the darkness of loss and the joy of remembrance with virulent black metal and soaring melodies, while still retaining the trademark Winterfylleth sound.
The Threnody of Triumph highlights a band at the top of their form and is vivid declaration to the world to show that UK Black Metal is a force to be reckoned with.
